Quilt for Uni

Chris_gemquiltMany of our shop customers will remember Gemma who worked as our Saturday girl for many years. We hated to lose her but off she went travelling and this year she started university. Her mum Chris works at the mail order department and alongside Nicky runs the longarm quilting service.

Before leaving for university, Gemma chose some very stylish fabric (she is great with colour) and Chris made this stunning quilt for her. The quilt is bright, vibrant and the quilting is bold and works fantastically. Here is Chris trimming the quilt Chris_gemclosejust after the quilting had been finished and it came off the machine.

What a great idea to make a quilt for someone off starting uni - a little bit of home comfort!

Mary Rose quilted densely

Maryroseclose Over the last 18 months Chris and myself (Nicky) have quilted many quilts and through doing so we've become quite intuitive in knowing what size patterns work best  taking into account what the customer likes, what suits the quilt amongst many other variables. On the whole we haven't quilted many quilts extremely densely. We've quilted many of Carolyn Forster's quilts (author of 'Quilting-On-The-Go' and who also runs many workshops for us) and she has been great in letting us 'practise' on lots of quilts whilst we were training at the very start. Carolyn is extremely clued up on what she wants and recently has wanted some of her quilts to be extremely densely quilted. I have to say the first time she specified this, I was a little nervous as I had never quilted so close together but also really excited to see how it looked. Well, I loved the look and this inspired me to densely quilt the Mary Rose quilt with a feather pattern. It took a long time doing it but I personally loved the outcome and was really pleased with it.
